New funding available for innovators trying to make a difference in healthcare.
We are pleased to announce three new funding opportunities for SMEs, academics and NHS innovators working in this region.
The GM AHSN Innovation Funds will support the introduction and adoption of needs-led, evidence-based innovations into the healthcare system within the GM AHSN footprint. This will improve the health of citizens, whilst promoting economic development and wealth creation through the growth of local businesses and jobs.
The Ignite Fund is intended to support clinicians and academics working to develop solutions to unmet healthcare needs. This opportunity will be open for applications later in the year.
The Energise Fund is specifically designed to support clinicians, academics and companies develop proof of concept or prototyping projects for a defined clinical application.
The Momentum Fund will provide funding support to help SMEs with innovative products or services accelerate progress to significant milestones.
Both the Energise and Momentum funds are open for application from today, and will close for applications on Monday 27th June at 9am.
Anthony Holmes of Optasia Medical, a company which received an award for its unique SpineAnalyzer software, said this of GM AHSN’s support:
“For an SME, developing a scalable and repeatable business model that operates within the complexities of the NHS framework is a significant task. The support from GM AHSN has allowed us to speak with the right people very quickly and replace current assumptions with solid data.”
Linda Magee, Director of Industry and Wealth at GM AHSN added:
"These new funds have evolved out of our work over the past nearly two years. We have observed and advised a great range of companies in this region, and have identified areas where financial support could have the most profound impact. We are very pleased to be able to offer grants to local organisations and individuals who are passionate, as we are, about improving health and boosting the local economy.”
The Energise and Momentum funds will award up to a maximum of £50,000 and £25,000 per project respectively, and priority will be given to Greater Manchester based applicants including inward investment companies who have a base in the GM area.
GM AHSN’s Innovation Nexus Delivery Team will be running a Google Hangout presentation and Q&A about the funds on Wednesday 8th June. We will be sharing the link for you to watch the Hangout live closer to the time. You can also send your questions to us via Twitter or by email.
