UK’s Minister for Life Sciences celebrates the success of GM AHSN’s Innovation Nexus

Speaking at the Health & Social Care Expo in Manchester last week, Minster George Freeman spoke of the current opportunities and challenges facing the NHS.

In the speech, which closed the event at Manchester Central Convention Complex, Mr Freeman set out plans for delivering the necessary improvements, focusing on NHS England’s Five Year Forward View.

Commenting on the need for  “a culture across the health and care service that values and promotes innovation”, the Minister highlighted GM AHSN’s Innovation Nexus as a prime example, noting its success in securing additional funding and supporting 60 companies in its first six months.

In addition, Mr Freeman mentioned the importance of data and digital healthcare, stressing the importance of integrated health and care records for reducing hospital admissions, supporting those with chronic conditions and decreasing the onset of preventable diseases.

Concluding, he stated: “Working with new transformative technologies towards a more innovative NHS that delivers better value. That’s what we should all be working for.”
